Building an online store in Algeria in 2026: prices, platforms or custom-built?

In short — updated September 2026

In Algeria, an online store costs between 20,000 DZD (template from a beginner) and 600,000 DZD with an agency. A subscription platform starts cheaper but is paid every month, in foreign currency and with a commission on your sales. In a market where 80 to 90% of orders are paid on delivery, the real challenge is managing orders, delivery and returns. At HelpYotek, a store starts at 170 000 DZD (Basic) and 250 000 DZD (Pro).

    Basic store, from

    170 000 DZD

    Pro store, from

    250 000 DZD

    Maintenance, from

    2 800 DZD / month

You already sell on Instagram, Facebook or in a shop, and you want a real online store. You have three options: a subscription platform, a custom-built store, or a low-cost template. None is bad in itself: it depends on your order volume, your budget and how much you want to control.

This guide compares the three with real 2026 prices, explains what "custom-built" really means and sets out the realities of e-commerce in Algeria: cash on delivery, returns, delivery and card payment.

Three ways to launch a store

Before comparing prices, compare what you are buying.

    01

    The subscription platform

You rent a ready-made store (Shopify, YouCan or an Algerian platform). Quick start, low upfront cost, but a monthly subscription and sometimes a commission on each sale. You remain a tenant: the store lives as long as you pay.

    02

    The custom-built store

A provider builds your store, often on a proven base such as WordPress / WooCommerce: a design created for you, features developed for how you sell, and you own it. The upfront cost is higher, but no commission is taken on your sales.

    03

    The low-cost store

A barely modified template, often sold for 20,000 to 80,000 DZD. Good enough to test an idea; more fragile afterwards: speed, security, order management and follow-up after delivery are rarely there.

    What about Algerian platforms?

Several Algerian platforms offer subscription stores for 1,000 to 5,500 DZD per month, in dinars, with no announced commission, cash on delivery and delivery companies already connected. To start with a small catalogue, it's a serious option. Check before committing: domain name in your name on the chosen plan, product limits, export of your orders and customers if you leave, and what happens to your store if the platform shuts down.

    A platform is a good fit if…

    • You're testing a product and want to sell within the week.
    • Your catalogue is small and rarely changes.
    • You're fine with a design close to other stores on the platform.

    Limits to keep in mind

    • Subscription and commissions for as long as the store exists, in foreign currency for international platforms.
    • You're a tenant: no store without a subscription, and export is sometimes limited.
    • Setup (product pages, photos, settings, design) still has to be done or paid for.
    • Algeria-specific features (wilayas and communes, local couriers, CIB / Edahabia) depend on apps or plugins.

Custom-built doesn't mean "coded from scratch"

A custom store can perfectly well run on a CMS such as WordPress / WooCommerce: in fact, it's often our choice. The CMS brings a solid, well-known base (cart, orders, an easy-to-use admin); custom-built is everything we build on top of it.

The difference with "installing WooCommerce and a theme" shows in the details: a design created for your brand rather than a theme sold thousands of times, and features coded for how you sell instead of a stack of paid plugins.

A design that fits your brand

A design built around your products and customers, mobile first, without looking like the store next door.

    Features coded for you

Quick ordering, wilayas and communes, delivery fees, order tracking: developed around how you work, not piled up with plugins.

A well-known base that you own

A widespread CMS that other providers can take over: no dependence on a platform or on a single developer.

    A simple admin

You add products, track orders and edit your content yourself, without touching the code.

The realities of e-commerce in Algeria

What makes an Algerian store profitable isn't visible on the storefront: it's everything that happens after the click on "Order".

    Cash on delivery

    80 – 90%

of orders are paid in cash on delivery, even more outside big cities. Your store must be built for it: short order form, wilaya and commune from a list, fast confirmation.

    Returns and refusals

    6 – 25%

of parcels come back depending on the niche (fashion is the most affected). Each refusal costs the outbound trip, the return and the packaging, with no sale.

    Delivery

    450 – 1,700 DZD

for home delivery depending on the wilaya (about 870 DZD on average), 250 to 1,100 DZD at a pick-up point. Your delivery fees per wilaya must be right, or you lose the margin or the customer.

    Card payment

    1.5 – 4.5%

per transaction with a local CIB / Edahabia gateway, no subscription. Online payment reduces refusals: offer it alongside cash on delivery.

How much do returns cost you?

Enter your order volume and your niche: the calculator estimates the loss from refused parcels, and what a confirmation call before each shipment brings back.

    Refused parcels / month
    20
    Loss per month
    16 000 DZD
    Loss per year
    192 000 DZD
Saved / year with a confirmation call
    48 000 DZD

Cost of a refusal: outbound delivery, return fees, packaging and time spent, excluding damaged goods. Gain from a confirmation call: 5 fewer points of returns (low end of the observed range).
